About Us

Welcome to Lily&Kirkby - Our company was established as a consequence of my nephew's birth in 2008, when his parents were given a beautiful family heirloom – a pure wool blanket, which had kept my siblings and I cosy and warm in the 1970s but yet still looks brand new! All my nieces and nephews have loved it since and they still snuggle under it in front of the television. We began to look for wool blankets in the UK to give as gifts to friends who were new parents so they could also one day see their grandchildren use it, just as our mother could. To our astonishment, wool baby blankets were very difficult to find, as the current trend seemed to be for man-made fibres (which we found that whenever babies were wrapped up in blankets made from man-made fibres they soon got sweaty and hot, whilst the wool blanket never seemed to cause this.

We have named the company 'Lily&Kirkby' - family names originating from the 1800s (also the era that the mills started in business). Our ancestors actually lived in the Yorkshire town where one of the the mills is located, so I have kept it very much still 'in the family'. The mills employ both traditional and modern techniques from start to finish to produce our collection from the finest wools; pure new wool, Lambswool, mohair, merino or alpaca depending on the intended use.

We feel so passionate about bringing the wool baby blanket back into the home so we set out to find mills in the UK who can still produce them and from their our business has flourished and have since expanded into throws for the home, summerhouse, car & garden or to take on outings/outdoor events, etc. and recently scarves in an array of sizes have been introduced to the range to add colour and style to outdoor wear.

Our latest addition to our range, are our great woollen event cushions/garden kneelers that have a handle to ease carrying them and have a waterproof backing. These have proved very popular since lockdown, as so many people have now taken an interest in their gardens. Also handy to take with you when you meet up with a friend in a park to sit on whilst you chat on a bench.

Please take a browse and help us bring back woollen goods into the home by buying from our extensive range of pure woollen goods which can be used all year round and make great gifts for your friends and relatives.

Please note:

We have made every effort to make the colours on screen as close as possible to the materials produced but dyes could vary between batches and the resolution of the photo could be different as it depends on your individual computer, smartphone or tablet resolutions so we cannot guarantee an exact colour match. Also the sizes given under the product descriptions can vary upto 10cm in length and upto 5cm in width between different batches as they are all hand cut in the traditional way.
